Bank Statement & Proof of Funds Translation for Visas and Study Abroad

Visa, study and immigration applications almost always ask for proof of funds — bank statements, deposit certificates, balance letters. They look like simple documents, yet they're among the most often rejected over translation details. Here's what to translate and the three most common reasons for rejection.

The three most common reasons for rejection

• Not one figure, currency or date may be off: amounts, currency symbols and date formats (especially DD/MM/YYYY vs MM/DD/YYYY) must be carried over exactly — and don't convert exchange rates unless the institution asks; converting only introduces error.
• Names must match the passport: the account holder's spelling should be identical to the passport.
• Complete, not cherry-picked: don't translate only the flattering pages. Statements usually must cover a continuous, complete period (often the last 3–6 months), and page numbers, bank stamps and headers/footers should be reflected in the translation.

Certification
